Blog Journal #2
1) My experience with Microsoft Word really began in College. I did not use it in grade school from what I can remember. Once or twice during COVID-19 when everyone switched to online for the duration of school in 2020 but more frequently when I entered college is when I started using Microsoft Word daily to complete my assignments. I prefer Microsoft Word over other word processing software, In my opinion, it's easy to navigate and figure out.
2) The ISTE standard that is most meaningful to me is Citizen. I feel that it is important for students to be aware of the effects Online and digital platforms have. While it is a great platform to voice your opinions, it definitely needs to be a subject that students are educated on entirely. As well as being properly shown how technology operates and how to navigate different software systems.
3) The term "Digital native" refers to the young generation and their relationship with technology. I would agree with that term for today's youth. When I was growing up, technology was just starting to take off. I even remember the first iPhone coming out. Therefore, I had a very early start to several things regarding technology however, because of how advanced it has become, I would say the newest generation has an even bigger grasp on it than individuals my age do. I have seen differences between Digital Natives and digital immigrants, for example, my professor the other day had to ask the class for help playing a YouTube video on the Apple TV, and my dad did not know how to work Facetime for the longest! I find that it is easy for people my age and younger to navigate technology, while digital immigrants have a harder time learning the ropes and prefer more old-school-style things. I'm sure by the time I'm older, my students will have to teach me things just like I do now with my dad and older people who are not as technologically advanced as some of us!
